History

Master Ricardo De La Riva

The Jiu-Jitsu art was introduced to Brazil by Japanese Jiu-Jitsu Champion Conde De Koma (Mituio Maeda) a friend of Carlos Gracie. Carlos not only learned the techniques, but also taught his brothers. To this day the Gracie Family is still practicing and teaching their Jiu-Jitsu art. Ricardo De La Riva a student of the great late Master Carlson Gracie started training in January of 1980 at the age of 15 years old in the house of his friend Vinicios Landmarks, also a student of Master Carlson Gracie. This is when it was known the great mark De La Riva would make on the Jiu-Jitsu world. Master De La Riva helped Master Carlson Gracie give lesson at his school starting at blue belt. He continued to teach at Master Carlson Gracie's school for and additional four years after achieving his Black Belt. Master De La Riva achieved his Black Belt in 1986.

Master De La Riva is best known for his "Legendary De La Riva Guard". A great part of his knowledge and skill came through undisputed victories against highly skilled adversaries as Royce, Royler, and Rolker Gracie. Master De La Riva defeated Royce and Rolker Gracie in the same competition on the same day to be the only man alive ever to beat two Gracie on the same day. Master De La Riva also in additional competitions has beaten Royler Gracie two times.

Master De La Riva has been training for more than 25 years in the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu art. He is constantly modifying and improving the Jiu-Jitsu art. Recently he has renamed his "Legendary De La Riva Guard" to "De La Riva Hooks." Working to improve the technique he found a better way to apply the guard. This is what Master De La Riva has always done to the art, "Improve It!" The information and skill that Master De La Riva possesses cannot be found with anyone else in the world.             Master Ricardo De La Riva's Master Instructor is the legendary late Grand Master Carlson Gracie, 9th degree black belt.  Grand Master Carlson Gracie recently passed away on February 1, 2006.  All his family, students, and friends will greatly miss him.  Master Ricardo De La Riva is still to this day in good terms with the Gracie family members.  Grand Master Carlson Gracie awarded Master Ricardo De La Riva his 5th degree black belt personally.

The truth is finally coming out.  It is a fact that Waldemar Santana defeated Helio Gracie and only a few months later Grand Master Carlson Gracie defeated Waldemar Santana.  All though Helio Gracie is recognized as the main developer of the original Gracie Jiu-Jitsu art, Grand Master Carlson Gracie's Jiu-Jitsu is better.  Nobody from the Helio Gracie camp has ever beaten anyone from the Grand Master Carlson Gracie camp.  Students including Master Ricardo De La Riva have beaten many students from Helio Gracie's camp including Gracie's.

Carlos Gracie was trained first from the Japanese Champion Conde De Koma.  Grand Master Carlson Gracie is the oldest son of Carlos Gracie and Master Ricardo De La Riva is a direct certified Master Instructor under the late legendary Grand Master Carlson Gracie.  The skill and knowledge found with Master Ricardo De La Riva cannot be found with anyone else in the world.  Call today to schedule a seminar or find out more information about the De La Riva association organization.
